This is a beautiful coastal trail within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, taking you along the beach and up to Eagle’s Nest and the Battle of Britain Memorial. From the car park, follow the path down to the coast, where you’re treated to magnificent coastal views as you walk beneath the iconic white cliffs. Eventually, you’ll take the ascending path, crossing the bridge over the Southern Main Line and continuing through a section of woodland to make your way up to the Eagle’s Nest cliff top. At the Eagle’s Nest, you’ll pass a cafe, which makes for a great midway stop for refreshments while enjoying the stunning coastal scenery. Continue along the cliff edges. Along this path, there are plenty of benches as well. It leads you to the Battle of Britain Memorial located on the white cliffs near Capel-le-Ferne to commemorate the aircrew who lost their lives in the Battle of Britain in 1940. After exploring the site, continue down to Martello Tower I, a small defence fort from the 19th century. From here, follow the lane back to the car park. There are some very narrow, steep, and rough sections along this route, especially along the cliff edges and in wetter conditions, and great care is needed. Appropriate footwear is advised.
